Option Two: Migrate to Modern Line Matrix
If you genuinely need impact printing, the cleanest path is a current-generation line matrix printer. Modern line printers generally accept the same forms, run the same multi-part stock, and speak the emulation set your host is already sending, which means the print stream frequently needs no change at all.
You also gain things the 6400 never had: current Ethernet and security support, better energy consumption and noise levels, remote management and status monitoring, and a supply chain that is not finite.
