  2. Clean the printhead. Use 99 percent isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free swab or a purpose-made cleaning card, wiping in one direction along the element line.
  3. Clean and inspect the platen roller. Remove adhesive, then rotate the roller fully to check for grooves, flat spots and glazing.
  4. Clear the media and ribbon path. Wipe guides, rollers, strip plate and the cutter or peeler, and vacuum out paper dust rather than blowing it deeper into the chassis.
  5. Clean the sensors and recalibrate. Swab the gap and black mark sensors, then run the printer media calibration for the stock you actually use.
  6. Inspect mechanics. Check belt tension and condition, spindle wear, head pressure balance, and the cutter blade edge.
  7. Print, verify and record. Print a test pattern and a production label, grade the barcode, then log the date, tasks, parts used and the grade.

Can we use rubbing alcohol from the drugstore?

Use 99 percent isopropyl alcohol, not the 70 percent product sold for skin. The remaining 30 percent in drugstore alcohol is water, which leaves residue, promotes corrosion, and evaporates too slowly around a printhead. Keep purpose-made cleaning pens, swabs and cards on hand instead of improvising. Never substitute acetone, ammonia glass cleaner, or a general shop solvent, since those attack the printhead protective layer and the plastics around it.

Which wear parts should we keep on the shelf?

For a thermal fleet, start with one printhead and one platen roller per printer model in service, plus cutter blades if the printers cut, and a spare ribbon spindle or drive belt for high-duty machines.
